Drumming Circle
Why
Drum?-- " It's fun. It's easy. It relieves stress. It
reconnects us with our deeper selves. It uplifts us and enhances
self esteem. It focuses us and increases intuition. It eradicates
language and age barriers. It's the ultimate community builder.
The list goes on."All One Tribe
Bring
your drums and rattles. Join the fun and come and play with
us. We have some extra drums and rattles for those who don't have
their own instruments.
Our drum circle began in January 2002 and happens
every month on the third Friday without excpetion. (Well, once
in all this time. We were away and the kids forgot to open the
place up for the facilitator. Oops.) We choose to start the circle
for a couple reasons. First, to build community in this northwestern
part of the Valley. Next, was to CELEBRATE AND PLAY. As
adults, we don't play enough. And I guess we needed some new playmates!
So, the focus of the circle is celebration and play.
In this way, it can be as much a spiritual circle or healing circle
as you choose as an individual. When we allow ourselves time to
relax, destress and enjoy life, we can hear Spirit talking to
us and allow space for healing to happen when we need it. Sometimes
it's just FUN time. Therefore, we don't have any adgenda for the
circle. You choose your own adgenda.
The only format we have for the circle is that we
always begin with a heart beat rhythm to ground and relax and
bring everyone into sync. Then we move on to synchronized rhythms
- one person starts and everyone follows. Then... we move to "built
rhythms". This is where one person starts a rhythm and everyone
else joins in where there is space, playing "their own song".
Okay, so this sounds like a classroom full of kindergardeners
with pots and pans, but soon the rhythms sync and the energy builds
and we can soar. This is the REALLY FUN part! Of course, we always
have a round of the Goddesses on the Mother Drum as well as a
Warrior round.
Weather permitting (not too hot or too cold) we
host the circle outside in our yard. During summer and winter
months we move indoors to our workshop room.
This is an open circle and anyone can join us. Also,
please feel free to come and go as your schedule requires during
the circle. We are not offended if you come late or leave early.
Just come and have FUN!
We do not charge for the drum circle or take love
offerings. This is our give back to the community for all that
Spirit has provided for us. Snacks to share are always welcome
if you wish to contribute.
